To promote ocean conservation and give people an opportunity to learn more about marine life, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium was established in Checheng Township, Pingtung County. It is a popular attraction in Pingtung, and welcomes a steady stream of visitors every day. The main exhibitions of the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium are Waters of Taiwan, Coral Kingdom Pavilion, Waters of the World and Whale Explorium. It purifies the water and supports the entire ecosystem, so you'll be able to see lots of beautiful birds if you visit here. When visiting Cifong Wetland, don't forget to bring your binoculars to appreciate the graceful figures of cattle egrets, great egrets, Pacific golden plovers and black-winged stilts. Cifong Wetland has an observation tower where you can climb up to admire the scenery. You can walk across the nine-turn bridge to explore the terrain and sit in the bird-watching pavilion to watch the birds fly past. The trails of Cifong Wetland are ideal for a leisurely bike ride to enjoy the unique tropical scenery.

Dapeng Bay National Scenic Neighborhood

Dapeng Bay National Scenic Neighborhood is located in Donggang Township, Pingtung County. Dapeng Bay is south-west Taiwan's largest lagoon. Its biodiverse ecosystem is home to a variety of precious animal and plant species. The incredible ocean views also make this destination well worth a visit. You'll find many species of birds here, including migratory birds. According to statistics, around 95 species of birds inhabit and migrate here, many of them coming to forage for fish and crustaceans and build nests. When you arrive at Dapeng Bay National Scenic Neighborhood, you'll be greeted by the dense mangroves and various coastal plants that form the diverse bay ecosystem. Dapeng Bay Bridge, a streamlined sea-crossing bascule bridge, is one of the area's main landmarks. The lifting of the deck on this 1,899-foot (579 meters) tall bridge is an incredible sight, and it's one of the most eye-catching structures in Dapeng Bay National Scenic Neighborhood.

Donglong Temple

Donglong Temple mainly worships "Royal Lord Wen" Wangye and is the faith center of Donggang Township, Pingtung County. The gold leaf-stacked mountain and river pailou stands in front of the temple, glittering in the tropical sunshine of Pingtung, as if a majestic temple of Heaven appeared on earth. The most well-known ceremony of Donglong Temple is the Wangye Worshipping Ceremony, which is held only once every 3 years. From "Inviting Wangye" to "Sending off Wangye", the ceremony runs for 8 days, during which the "Walking over Fire", "Presenting Letters", "Sailing of Wangye Boats", and other ceremonies are held. Among all the ceremonies, the most eye-catching is the "Boat Burning" ritual. Amidst the firecrackers and the raging flames, the hull is slowly burned to ashes, creating a spectacular scene. This traditional ritual is recognized as an important intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture. Whether or not you have religious beliefs, a visit to Donglong Temple will give you an insight into the powerful role that religion plays in the daily lives of the people who live here.

Eluanbi Lighthouse

Where there's a coastal destination, there's a landmark lighthouse – and Pingtung is no exception. Eluanbi Lighthouse is the local landmark lighthouse. This iconic building has become the main image of the emblem of Pingtung County. Eluanbi Lighthouse, a 70.2-foot tall (21.4 meters) tower, was built in 1883. This white structure is particularly striking under the sunlight. It was built as a fortification and was equipped with forts on the inside and on the outside. There were also trenches around it, making this building the only armed lighthouse in the world. After taking a photo with Eluanbi Lighthouse, don’t leave just yet. Just a few minutes' walk away you'll find Eluanbi Park.
