Highlights of the Victoria Baths

The construction of the Victoria Baths was supervised by Henry Price, the city’s first architect, and designed by the city surveyor and his assistant. When originally opened, the Victoria Baths complex was described as a ‘water palace’ by the Lord Mayor of Manchester. The facade features multicolored brickwork and terracotta details with beautiful stained-glass windows in the interior.

The complex featured private baths, laundry facilities, bathing pools and a traditional Turkish bath. Later, a sauna was included in the facility’s amenities. In winter, the pool was closed and the complex was used as a dance hall. Currently, the complex is used for historic tours and occasional social events.
