History of the Liverpool Empire Theater
Liverpool Empire Theater was preceded by the site's original theater, the new Prince Wales Theater and Opera House, which opened its doors in 1866. It was lit by gaslight and was, at the time, the largest in Liverpool. The original theater was renamed the Empire in 1896, but it closed in 1924 and was demolished.
The new Empire Theater was immediately erected on the same site, opening in 1925 to much fanfare, and still stands today. It's undergone millions of pounds in renovations in modern figures and maintains its historic elegance and ambience while being able to offer the latest technology in staging, sound and presentation.
