Ski resorts in Quebec and Ontario are known for their excellent runs, ranging from green and blue runs for beginners to black and triple black diamonds for seasoned skiers.     Mont-Tremblant Resort has been around since 1939, making it one of the oldest places for skiing and snowboarding in Canada. Its 875-metre-high peak has 95 ski runs in 3 separate zones, all of which are accessible from the 14 chairlifts.

    Experienced skiers often make their way to Versant Sud (Southern Slope), the largest zone in Mont-Tremblant. Besides skiing, families with young kids can enjoy ice skating, sleigh rides, and horseback riding. Need to refuel after a day on the slopes? Pedestrian Village offers plenty of restaurants and pubs, along with shops and play areas.

    Blue Mountain Ski Resort

    The Blue Mountain Ski Resort has 42 trails across a 150-hectare area. While it attracts skiers of all ability levels, the resort is usually very popular among families. Located in Ontario, the mountain’s base elevation is at 228 metres, with a summit elevation of around 450 metres.

    Ski runs consist of 11 for beginners, 16 for intermediates, 7 for advanced, and 8 for experts, all of which are wide, well-groomed trails. Services include equipment rental, freestyle camps, and daily ski and snowboard programmes. The Blue Mountain Ski Resort is within a 2-hour drive from Toronto.

    Mont-Sainte-Anne

    Mont-Sainte-Anne is an excellent ski destination in Beaupré, located around 78 km northeast of Quebec City. Seasoned skiers often come here to enjoy its 625-metre summit, the highest drop for night skiing in Canada. Around a dozen chairlifts take you to the resort’s ski runs, offering expansive views of the snowy slopes and St. Lawrence River along the way.

    The resort offers excellent skiing and snowboarding on 3 different sides of the mountain. You can find around 70 trails, 2 snow parks, 4 terrain parks, and 3 alpine touring trails across 868 hectares. Of these, 19 runs are lit up for night skiing and snowboarding in Mont-Sainte-Anne.

    Mont Blanc caters to beginners with a ski school and dedicated ski areas with magic carpet lifts. You can find 2 snow parks for snowboarding, along with an indoor play park and day-care services for families. The ski resort is within a 2-hour drive northwest of Montreal.

    Mont Saint-Sauveur is a prominent ski resort in Quebec, offering 40 ski runs across a 260-hectare landscape. Night skiing is a must-do, as you can find around 30 km of floodlit slopes serviced by 7 chairlifts. It’s also great for snowboarding, snowshoe and cross-country skiing.

    Downhill skiers can enjoy 13 trails covering all levels, while the Alpine Coaster lets you ride a single car through the mountain terrain with plenty of curves and descents. Mont Saint-Sauveur offers the longest ski season in Quebec – about 160 days annually.

    Great for Alpine skiing, Mont Sutton’s summit reaches 968 metres, with a 459-metre vertical drop. Established in 1960, the resort caters to families with a dedicated zone that includes a magic carpet lift, a safe drop-off area, a chairlift taking you to the easy trails, and a beginner’s park with 15 interesting learning modules.

    Le Massif has one of the highest vertical drops in Eastern Canada, with ski areas accessible from both the base and summit. Located beside the St Lawrence River, the resort has 48 trails with 6 chairlifts giving easy access to over 100 hectares of skiable terrain.

    Expert riders can race down 750 metres of ski runs, through forest glades to the valley and river below. You can find cross-country and snowshoe trails offering views of the Montmagny Archipelago and Isle-aux-Coudres. If you want a special experience, Le Massif offers nocturnal sledging along a 7.5-km route, with only a headlight to light the 2-hour-long journey.

    Mont Orford

    Mont Orford is Quebec‘s 4th-highest summit, with a vertical drop of 590 metres. You can enjoy skiing and snowboarding on 3 peaks, namely Mont Giroux, Mont Orford and Mont Alfre-Desroches. A hybrid chairlift and 8 standard lifts take you to the resort’s 61 trails and 4 major slopes.

    Mont Orford offers black and double-black diamond trails, while Mont Giroux has a mix of blue and green trails. The 4 KM is the longest ski trail in Mont Orford, winding down the southeast slope with spectacular views of Appalachian Mountain and Lake Memphremagog. Discovery Center Le Cerisier caters to cross-country skiers with around 48 km of trails.

    Mont Grand-Fonds

    A must-visit for serious Alpine and backcountry skiers

    Mont Grand-Fonds is a prominent resort within the Charlevoix region, about 155 km northeast of Quebec City. It’s known for offering excellent Alpine skiing, thanks to its 300-metre vertical drop and 14 alpine trails. Beginners looking to improve their skills can find 3 training trails and a snow park within the resort’s premise.

    Mont Grand-Fonds also has around 140 km of cross-country skiing trails and 41 km of snowshoe trails, making it one of the best places for winter sports in Eastern Canada. After a day in the snow, head over to the main lodge for an après ski at Pub Le Sommet.
