An amazing stay in a Sassi cave
The hotel communicated very well on how we could find them and where they would meet us which was very helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable with all the modern touches that you would expect in a conventional hotel but in a cave! The breakfast was very generous and delicious and the host were very welcoming

The best thing about Corte vetere is Angela and her staff. A well run B&B in a perfect location. This is a B&B that has an actual breakfast! Coffee and an impressive array of pastries served at large tables where you can visit with the other guests. We had fun.

Beautiful Bed and Breakfast in the Heart of the Sassi. Short walk to main plazas and restaurants. Breakfast was great, and the owner was great and check in simple.

La Corte Vetere is in the heart of old Matera which is magnificent. It is impossible to get to by car so we were met in the main square and escorted - we would never have found it ourselves! But this was part of the magic, the labyrinth of ancient streets is quite extraordinary. We had been allocated a double room and needed a twin room so the owner quickly offered us a suite at no extra charge. This was in a cave dug into the rock but beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Breakfast was ample and served on a small terrace with a view over the town. For anyone with mobility problems Matera would be very challenging as the streets twist and turn with lots of steps and polished stones but for anyone else it’s a very special place not to be missed. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and this was a great start to our holiday in southern Italy.

La Matera can be a difficult place to negotiate. Nothing is easy and everything requires long walks over uneven stones. It is however well worth the effort. Our hotel is just immediately away from the main square. A SHORT walk (you’re going to thank me for this) and you arrive at a fabulous small hotel (the owner came to the square to walk us over). I could describe it all but I’m on vacation. Just GO it’s great.
