2/10 Poor

For the price this place is basic. You are paying 5 star prices and getting 3 star standard. Basic. Lamps in bedroom didn’t work. It was just cheap, cold no view not comfortable in the apartment. I stay all over nz for work and I have never paid over $330 for a night in such a basic hotel. I’ll never stay here again

Property is right in middle of city centre and easy walking distance to everyone. Car parking is available but $15 per night, which is a bit over the top.

Good location, easy parking, clean and tidy room. Very helpful and courteous receptionist. We arrived Easter Sunday about 530pm and had to use intercom to gain access but it was really hard to hear due to traffic noise.

The property is in an excellent location in downtown Whagarei, clean, comfortable but the check-in process was very strange. They don’t have anyone at the front desk after 5 PM. You have to call on an intercom to someone, wait a while on hold for them to answer, then it is hard to hear them with traffic going on. There happened to be one staff member, who by coincidence had to stay late for something else. She found me or else I may never have found my way to our room or to parking.

Staff were very helpful. Room is clean but very basic. Although we didn’t use it, cutlery, cups and glasses were not a matched set, three different forks, three different knives etc Still usable but what it should be.

Can’t comment on staff really as on arrival you press a button wait and a voice on the other end pass you a code to access keys. You are on your own from there. Room was clean and had everything you needed. There is free parking between 4:30pm and 8;30 am. A little hard to find based on the map. Olson had to use card to enter through the door to garage and press exit button to allow a car through. Not sure if this is for everyone or just an issue with our card. But as there is no one to ask can’t say. The area down by the water is a must to stroll around and enjoy a coffee.

Nobody in reception when we arrived. Lift not working. A pleasant room, spacious, bit dated. Good location.

The staff were very nice and the location was great, but the room was not cleaned properly, we found food in the freezer and very dirty dish in the oven. There was only one clean over a 3 night stay and all they did was make the bed poorly and change the towels.

The room was warm and comfortable, and in a great location. Unfortunately there was loud music from a bar or club next door that played until the small hours of the morning that kept both rooms in our party awake. The people staying above us were also very loud.

Perfectly nice, but extremely noisy on the weekend
I stayed two nights at Quest Whangarei over a weekend (Friday-Sunday) for a conference I was attending. The hotel itself is well-located, and the room was clean and in mostly good condition. Checking in was difficult due to the intercom being on a noisy road corner, and so checking in after-hours (reception hours are extremely limited, due to Covid) was hard as it was difficult to hear the person on the other end. The worst part of this hotel is the noise that comes from a nearby nightclub on the weekends. The first night was ok, but the Saturday night was unbearable - hours of incessant bass speaker noise (from about 10pm) that reverberated through the floor/walls of my room into the early hours - even earplugs were no use. After not being able to sleep due to the noise, I called the after-hours reception twice - the first time (11.30pm) I was told there was no better room to be moved to, and the second (12.30am) I was moved to a room in a different part of the hotel - and charged $50 for the privilege! I was told that was the cost of laundering the additional linen, however this was extremely disappointing as for the price of these rooms, I would expect a hotel room that was quiet enough to be able to sleep in. To the hotel's credit, after challenging the fee I was eventually refunded, but this left a poor impression. This would be a perfectly fine hotel for a weeknight stay, but I would avoid staying here on weekends due to the noise alone.
