Fra i Sassi - Residence

Absolutely amazing location. Room was fabulous, bathroom was huge and luxurious. Walked straight out door to wander the streets and all the main sites. Also fabulous was their decking area which had lounges and tables and chairs and every night we sat and relaxed and had drinks delivered to us from their bar area whilst we admired the amazing views. Also as limited parking there was an excellent drop off area for luggage which was very well organised by the hotel with our car rego number. Beautiful restaurants located within minutes walk. Cannot fault and cannot wait to go back for a visit.

Bed was way too soft. Both of us had back aches that lasted for several days

So unique to stay in a cave hotel. The room and staff were great. The views of Matera were really nice. Highly recommended

The highlight of our trip to Italy was our stay in Matera and the lovely Fra Sassi hotel! Best breakfast we had and the most amazing views.

In correspondence with staff person who spoke English, I was assured a tour could be arranged upon arrival. No need to do it in advance. Of course when we got there, he couldn’t arrange anything so I booked a tour myself but had to pay more as all less expensive tours fully booked.

Lovely room in a sassi with a magnificent view. Unlike other reviews we had no trouble finding the place using Google maps. They also offered valet parking fo 18 euros a day.helpful staff with good English. Couldn’t find a better place to enjoy Matera.

We very much enjoyed our stay in the deluxe suite #8. The room was quite large and well-furnished and the ‘cave’ bathroom was unique and lovely. The view of the Sassi outside our door was amazing. Fra Sassi is perfectly located for a stay in Matera as you will be able to walk right into the heart of the Sassi experience. The drive to the property is fine if you obtain the directions from the property, and we strongly recommend that you take advantage of the car drop off service. There was several steps up to many of the rooms which can be a little difficult with luggage, but the view and location are well worth it. The breakfast was a fine, typical Italian breakfast which you can enjoy in the breakfast area or bring to your room. There are several sets of tables and chairs outside the rooms so that you can enjoy the view. We would strongly recommend this residence for an ideal location within historic Matera.

Great hotel in the sassi of Matera!

I was so impressed with everything about this place, very courteous staff Anna and the rest of the staff, heartfelt accommodations, very respectful, very helpful. The place is so beautiful so unique, very artistically designed place, I love the bed and the bath tub, I stayed in a room with a patio viewing the houses of Matera. Breakfast buffet was very good , fulfilling and fresh, served with beautiful smile of the staff. I am highly recommending this place. A 5 star accommodations. Thank you guys for your help and wonderful smile , it makes us so very happy and comfortable with our stays. I can’t stop thinking of the place... I am definitely coming back with my family
