Take a hotel in a great location, with a pool, owned by one of the big luxury chains in Uganda, and somehow make it a disappointment
Bugalobi is very convenient for the city, and the area is quiet and pretty. Close by and within a walk you have the Village Mall, with Java coffee and a range of useful shops. The hotel is also quiet and pretty with a pool. All good. And the Indian food at the hotel is a real plus
However, due to a particular management style prevalent in Uganda, the management and the staff do not get on, and therefore the customer experience gets lost in the middle. So don't expect anything in this hotel to be done with you in mind. The front desk staff are distinctly unfriendly, and deliberately slow. Rooms are cleaned in a uniquely inefficient way leaving them unusable for most of the day without towels or sheets. The pool is there but only 2 or so of the twenty recliners will have cushions. No towels. On - and someone on the staff loves cricket. certainly not Uganda's or their guests favorite sport. Nevertheless, its on all the time and is usually the channel that works on the tv, when the others do not. Sometimes its on two channels simultaneously. Not so important, but indicative of the approach where the staff focus on their own preferences first.
So if you love cricket, Indian food, and have a generally high tolerance for sulky staff - this is the place. My second visit, and I can't see myself returning.
