Would stay again but have dinner elsewhere
Good hotel. Friendly efficient staff. Rooms spacious and clean, comfy bed. Furniture a bit tired but old furniture often is, why throw it away and buy new when it’s perfectly usable. Hugh bath!! So much history in this building. Dinner menu was limited and they had run out of a few options too so a little disappointing but food reasonable and hot. Breakfast much better, no complaints there.

Mixed Feelings at Old Hall Hotel, Buxton.
We were staying for 2 nights as a birthday treat for me. The hotel is one of the oldest in the country I believe, so a little allowance for age was important. Our Family Room no. 22 was massive and very comfortable and pleasant. There were snags though eg. Vinyl split in bathroom floor, radiator didn't work in bathroom. Horrendously bright LED street light outside the window making it hard to sleep as there are only shutter blinds on the window - no curtains! Overall, we liked the room and the bed was comfy but the pillows were terrible! 4 x flat, hard pillows....even in a Travelodge, you get a choice of firm or soft. The location is great. Right next to the beautiful Pavillion gardens and Opera House...so central but still peaceful. And I wouldn't fault the breakfast staff and provision - they were happy to provide veggie sausages for us vegetarians. And everything was well cooked and tasty. All in all, it was a mixed reaction. In the front lounge somebody had done an amazing Christmas decor complete with a Muppet themed tree! But elsewhere, dirty front entrance with wallpaper peeling off the ceiling......and you'd have to pay me to use the scary ancient lift again!!! I was also disappointed that in spite of my partner informing a number of staff about my birthday.....nobody made any special gesture - no free drink or anything. Thought that was a bit mean..... There's character and shabby chic, and then there's tired and needing work.....The Old Hall felt like the latter

Had a very enjoyable stay. The room was a little tired but was warm and inviting The only negative was the mattress which was obviously past its best as it hollowed out on one side. The dinning room was beautiful with white starched linen table cloths and serviettes . The staff were attentive and the breakfast delicious .

Our opinion of our stay at the Old Hall Hotel
Overall a good stay and we would return. Location, in the centre of the town. Next to a beautiful park and leisure facilities. All attractions and shops within walking distance. Parking £6 for 24 hours for hotel visitors, not many spaces because they are public ones but we were lucky and dropped on one. Receptionist was exceptionally kind, attentive and helpful. Room, spacious, clean and warm. Beautifully decorated and this gives it a comfortable opulent feeling to match the grand old historcal building. Evening restaurant experience was disappointing, expensive for food that was nothing special. Incomplete cheese board, no grapes, however no prior warning which would have influenced our choice. Breakfast was a buffet, typical choices and fresh, however room to hughly improve using locally sourced organic food which would ooze flavour and make it a breakfast to remember.

Check in was nice and quick by friendly staff. Room very spacious, large bathroom, comfortable bed, room nice, clean and warm. Breakfast was great, help yourself to anything that was available. The hotel is very old with lots of character, great building. Everyone was very polite and helpful, gave us some great information with what was going on around Buxton and how to get to Bakewell on the local transport. Great stay, would definitely stop here again, when next coming up that way. Thanks.

Ideally situated for all amenities. Room comfortable. Breakfast spot on, but because the plates were cold, the hot food cooled before we had finished eating. Warm plates would have made a big difference.

One night stay
Hotel close to the centre of the town and only a minute walk from the opera house and gardens. Looks like some refurbishment in progress. Tidy rooms but some of the chairs a touch fragile. Rooms clean. Parts of the hotel look like they could do with a bit of redecorating. Lift in the hotel but small and temperamental with sliding door on inside which if not closed stops the lift working (left open by a guest on a top floor so needed to be closed to resume working) Good breakfast. Parking outside the hotel but was busy. A ticket from the hotel covered 24hrs from issue. Otherwise it's pay and display which could be expensive as time limited during the day.

Perfectly adequate
Perfectly adequate 3star hotel. A touch of nostalgic faded glory. Tired carpets, overworked staff ( and too few of them ) and unadventurous evening menu. Comfortable, warm room and a good shower. £9 for a small glass of wine seemed excessive but it was well chilled!

Outdated but lovely
The hotel itself is dated with it's decor and layout but the staff are excellent and very welcoming. Our room was nice and big, we had views across the pavilion gardens and the bed was nice and comfortable. The shower was spot on with very good temperature and pressure. Plenty of plug sockets and a reasonable TV. A hotel with charm and character rather than a soulless chain.

Excellent hotel
Fantastic hotel and really lovely staff. The breakfast was good and because it was cooked in small batches, hot and fresh. Coffee served in a cafetiere and tea in a teapot. We ate in the bar one evening and the food was delicious. The room we stayed in was large with a very comfortable 4 poster bed. Bathroom was large and supplied with shower gel, shampoo and hand wash. Large bath towels were a bonus. Parking outside the hotel is £6 for 24 hours with a ticket from reception. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Perfect Location!
We love this hotel, the location is perfect, and surprisingly not noisy. The breakfast was perfect with excellent food and service in the very nice dining room. We did book an evening meal and had a few problems, we discussed this with senior staff and the bill was adjusted accordingly so we are happy. I believe Ensana who also own the Buxton Crescent Hotel look like they have severely restricted the budget for the Old Hall, some areas have been decorated/maintained but first impressions for someone first visiting are awful, I don’t know why they fitted the new doors by the entrance I can only think they are temporary, due to financial problems both are now up for sale, hopefully old hall hotel will then get attention it deserves with new owners. There seems to be quite a few issues with staff reliability, again maybe budget (and job security) you can still have a lovely time here, we did, just hope whoever buys it don’t price us out.

Fabulous
Fabulous stay prior to a show. The hotel was amazing. From check in (with complimentary glass of champagne) and throughout our stay the staff were professional, attentive and welcoming. Everything about this place was just perfect. Centrally located, stylish decor and classy without being pretentious. Would definitely recommend.

Very quaint hotel - a bit worn - but clean. Our only quibble is that we cannot understand why they don’t level up the beds . It’s a bit uncomfortable sleeping in a slope.
