The Vendue

Do not stay here! I lived in Charleston and stayed here many years ago before they expanded into the adjacent buildings. My stay was great then, but this has turned into nothing better than a Motel 6 unfortunately. The room smelled like mold. The AC did not work in the room. The faucet was also broken so water could not drain. I requested both items be fixed while we were at dinner and to have a call back letting me know they were taken care of. Neither happen. I called them three hours after my initial request only to find they forgot about it but were sending someone over immediately. I requested a call back to confirm the repairs, but once again no return call. We got to the room one hour after the latest call to find the sink fixed, but the AC was still stuck on heat. When I reached the desk they said it couldn’t be repaired. They offered no solution or apology. After a heated exchange they offered me a much smaller room that was not suitable. We ended up staying at a nearby Inn instead. The manager we dealt with was rude and dismissive. The only thing this place has going for them is their location and a decent rooftop bar.

Great service by staff but our heat broke and they had to bring in space heater. The room was noisy, right next to the main entrance. Location and door doesn’t offer much privacy. Rooftop was great and location is great.

The Vendue is an excellent hotel in a very nice area of Charleston. It's right near the park on the the water and there are many really great restaurants within walking distance.

It was fantastic. We stayed in the Brian Gallery room and it was wonderful!

We booked through Hotel.com - had to change date of reservation and received conf but when we got there they did not have reservation but got us room and told all was taken care of then charged card for the stay - this is supposed to be in process of being sorted out but frustrating. This probably alters my view but overall it was just okay. Our room was across from elevator and lots of early morning noise as well.

The service, happy hour, and coffee hours were awesome! Loved the rooftop bar and the restaurant attached. Within walking distance of everything! The only negatives were (1) lack of elite hotel amenities and (2) uncomfortable beds. Not sure I’d stay again but I would come to the rooftop bar every visit.

The location cant be beat. The service was amazing. Unfortunately an old hotel just smells like an old hotel. Our room was very musty. Also got placed next to the electrical room for the elevator, which made noise all night. It was a short visit so we did not make any change requests.

Honestly, one of the most disappointing stays I've had in a while. I got in late, and the bed was broken in the first room I was put in. I figured it would be fine because I was so tired, but over the next few hours, I got itchy, coughing, and wheezing- when it was finally morning (6:00- up early for work), I saw the reason I was choking was the windows were covered in black mold! I requested a room change, which was a pain, and the night clerk was very kind and sweet, but didn't have enough training to move me in the morning. I found out my coworker had been put into the same room as me 2 nights before and also had to be moved out, and clearly nothing was fixed between stays. The next room was also dingy, the bed was uncomfortable (but not broken), and the whole room and hallway smelled like old coleslaw the whole time I was there. At no point was I offered any compensation, nor did I speak to a manager, even though I asked for one. At $230 a night, it was honestly a huge rip off- it felt like a $60 a night motel. Don't stay here- there's a million places to pick from in Charleston right now.
