Check in was easy, loved that they were able to hold our bags before and after our check in and check out. Staff are nice although a little jaded (no smiles, all transactions); the automated text messages from the hotel were more enthusiastic than the staff. Elevator was super quick for only being 2. I felt safe and sound proof quality of walls were adequate (heard some noises next door but only from the restroom). There was a long hair and stains on the hotel couch. Excellent location and definitely had a luxury vibe.

Location Location Location !! Friendly welcoming staff Nice upkeep of legendary Chicago hotel. Rooms decent side. Excellent water pressure in shower. Only suggestion would be to replace dated carpet in hotel room with laminate flooring. The carpet is tired looking

The staff were amazing, as well the location. Breakfast buffet in the morning was definitely above average out of the hotel breakfast we've had in the past. The room was very old and outdated. The carpet was old and had several stains. I would stay again if I had too. But for the price....I would definitely look around first even with the positives of this hotel.

Nice large room. Everything was in good shape. There was no coffee maker and no microwave, no snacks, no vending. We needed hot water for tea. The first night, the bar provided such, albeit slowly. The second they refused and were rather brusk about it. This was quite disappointing from an expensive hotel.

Well the pre check in process was ridiculous and a waste of time. Uploading my passport and a selfie and given a QR code that o never needed. All questions asked at check in anyway. Don’t waste time with pre check in. Room was large, but the fabric couch and carpet are in need of a deep clean. Lovely rooftop deck. And there were no black out curtains.

This historic hotel is well located in Chicago’s Gold Coast. Front desk staff, bartenders, and food service staff clearly have a customer-first focus. From check-in through next morning’s breakfast buffet, a satisfactory hotel stay. I’ll definitely be back.

For the cost of the room, I guess it was all location and staff. Every single person we spoke to was kind, friendly, helpful and so pleasant. The bottom of the shower was peeling and the carpets were stained. Breakfast was complementary which was good because as it was decent it was not worth $35 per person without the option to order what you wanted. The TV was not able to cast to, it said it was, but it wasn't working. Very nice lighting in the bathroom and the bed was comfy.

Great amount of space for a downtown hotel, however the room was showing its age with stained furniture, frayed couch covers, and cracks in the wall. Location was great and the bar and lobby are always beautiful. Overall we’d probably stay again but may start looking for other options if updates aren’t made.

6/10 Good

The room was very clean and well-maintained; however, it was smaller than expected. One issue was the lack of a ventilation fan in the bathroom, which caused odors to linger in the room after use. Additionally, the bathroom layout may be somewhat challenging for larger guests. When I approached the front desk to request a deodorizer, the staff member appeared inconvenienced by the request, which was disappointing. Housekeeping service was also not available during my stay. On a positive note, the lobby was clean and inviting, the bartenders were friendly and attentive, and the view from the property was excellent. Overall, while there were some areas that could be improved, there were also several aspects of the stay that I enjoyed.

Second time I've stayed here in less that a year; loved it first time, this time not so much. The breakfast vouchers that were included with the room last time were an extra expense this time; breakfast was not in usual space first 3 of 4 days, and we were misguided by desk personnel about where it was on the first 2 of those days; encountered LOTS of dirty dishes (including a cereal bowl with a tiny dead centipede in it). To be fair, the food itself was as good as we remembered it. Various other glitches, the worst of which was hearing (on 7th floor) the drum machine (on 1st floor) until 2a.m. one night. Overall, it was a good stay, but not the nearly perfect experience of last year.

This is one of my favorite hotels, period. The location in Chicago's Gold Coast is fantastic - especially in warmer weather. There are flowers everywhere and magnificent 19th century architecture bumping up against modern condo high rises. Walkable to the subway, and a short walk to shopping and tourist destinations on Michigan Avenue.
