Booked this room way in advance to go tour Lees McRae University the next day. Hurricane Helene came and we couldn't go tour the college because of the damage it caused to Banner Elk. Asked for a refund because of state of emergency and was denied any refund just because we couldn't get there.

I’ll pass next time
Fixtures are very old. Toilets are old 5 gallon tanks. Sink and tub drains were clogged and wouldn’t drain. Not worth $130/night. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good. Check in lady was aloof and vaguely interested in checking us in, being involved in a side discussion with another lady sitting in the reception area.

The bed was the only thing nice I can say about the room. Ceiling in the bathroom had places missing the spackle. The bathroom door looked like it was coming apart. The main door did not meet the floor. You could see light coming in around it. Look at the nasty chair in the photo below.

The room was typical average motel room. The shower was the worst. Water sprayer all over, even to the ceiling. The shower head was so loose it could not be aimed. But the breakfast was good.

It was not a good stay. We waited for about 20 minutes in the lobby waiting on the staff to go look for batteires . Well this is what she told the people in front of us. There were 8 people trying to check in at the same time. We saw only 2 staff while we were there. When i made the reservations it clearly stated room was on 2nd floor. When I asked about this she said they didnt have staff to clean 2nd floor. Breakfast was limited. The juice machine did not work, coffee was cold when she brought more out. There was 3 hot trays for food but only 2 were filled. We were gone all day came back later on after supper. Air conditioner did not work but it had the night before. My husband went to front desk to ask for some help. He was told there was not a manager to call or a maintenance person to call. We loaded up our belongings and left to go home at 8pm. Also the curtain at the window was all torn and shredded. It was tied up in a big ugly knot. We will never stay here again.

The area does not feel safe. We tried calling the front desk Friday morning, but no one would answer the phone. The following morning we went to the front desk and asked for towels. When we got in late Saturday night, no fresh towels. I went to the front desk and she stated she could not get in to where the linens were. Finally, she told me she had two washcloths, and I could go to the weight room to get some "pool" towels there. Keep in mind, this was after midnight that i was having to walk the hotel grounds (all outside). I was literally frightened. The grounds are full of cigarette butts and i also smelled some "odd" odors as I was walking around. Also, the breakfast provided is very limited and is not good at all! We will never stay there again! Lights in the bathroom and over the sink are either broken or about to come off tge wall in the room, furniture is damaged, and we were made to put down a $100 deposit on our credit card. This was awful!!

Convenient. Room had lots of visible damage: smoke detector hanging, missing drawer pulls, stained ceiling, dirty bathroom, broken towel rack, screaming girl all night, cursing and yelling. Lots of maintenance needed. Had to wait almost 30 min to check in—no one at front desk. When we checked out the host was literally in a screaming argument with a family trying to get back into their room after coming back from going out for breakfast. She would not let them back in because it was 11:05 a.m. it was unprofessional and embarrassing. There was a child there as well.
