Dockweiler Beach is a popular beach in Playa del Rey where you can enjoy high-flying fun with hang gliding and other activities normally prohibited on beaches, like bonfires. The beach itself has 3.75 miles of shoreline, so there's plenty of room to relax, play on the beach, or venture out into the water.

This beach primarily attracts those looking for more thrilling activities like hang gliding, but relaxing in the sun and sand and gathering around a beach bonfire at night are also popular ways to spend time at Dockweiler Beach.

Dockweiler Beach highlights

One of the most influential draws to this beach is the Dockweiler Hang Gliding Center. Not only can you take to the skies in a hang glider if you're experienced, but you can also find training lessons if you're a beginner. The area is perfect for hang gliding and was actually used in the 1960s by hang-gliding pioneers.

This beach is also home to a bicycle path that lets you enjoy the scenic surroundings while cruising along a paved path. It's connected to the Marvin Braude Bike Trail system, which stretches 22 miles.

Good to know when visiting Dockweiler Beach

When you visit this beach, feel free to set up for a picnic or a bonfire. It's one of the few beaches in the LA area that are open to those kinds of things, so be sure to take advantage if you're looking for some outdoor eating and relaxation.

The beach is located right by the airport, so you won't have to travel far to see some of LA's other attractions, like Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach to the north. To the south, you'll find Manhattan Beach and its famous pier and aquarium.
