This was the worst experience we’ve ever had staying in a rental…ever. First, no one came to greet us and we had a difficult time getting accurate check in instructions. More importantly, despite assurances ahead of time that the apartment is clean and despite a cleaning fee and online description that the apartment is “professionally clean,” it was absolutely filthy and unsanitary. The beddings and pillows were stained and dirty. In the kitchen, appliances were dirty, with crusted food in the microwave; kitchen cupboards were dirty; fridge had hair in it; and there was a very potent sewer smell coming from the cabinet under the sink. In the bathroom, there was hair in the shower and on the floor, and the toilet was dirty. The apartment was simply not sanitary and it was not possible to stay there. We contacted the hosts to ask that the apartment be cleaned but they adamantly refused to clean or to cancel the reservation. We contacted Expedia and the hosts refused to the Expedia representative to clean or cancel the reservation. The host also threatened to keep the deposit if we did not return the key after they learned that we moved out after the first night even though we paid for two weeks. We did not get adequate help from Expedia so are now exploring other remedies. On this trip, we stayed in multiple other apartments/accommodations and had great experiences. This was a horrific experience. Do not deal with these dishonest hosts.
