Without wanting to tell people how to auck eggs....Guests should always read about the property so they are aware of things like the fact there are shared bathrooms (this is quite clear from the online info, yet people complain). Also look at location near roads in case you are worried about noise. There are main roads and road works near by. And costs are always going to be high in Sydney for what you get.
But hotels should also be clear about what is available (coffee facilities in this case does not mean a kettle and bar fridge is available in the rooms, they are in a public area).
We didn't need great facilities as we were only in town for a concert and it was close to train stations, but for only a couple of hours sleep you still expect clean sheets. One room had clean linen, the other looked like it was unclean. One room was missing the tv remote and they didn't have any spares.
The place is very run down, parking is tricky at times, and it is definitely far from squeaky clean. However the staff were friendly and as helpful as they could have been.
Not sure how anyone could give 4 or 5 stars to this place, make sure you read up....
