The rooms were fine. Not luxurious, but this is an old hotel with good prices and an excellent location. The lady at the front desk in the morning was overworked because other staff did not show up. She did her best and was helpful. The hotel owners should fire the person supposedly running the continental breakfast because he was not there 2 days in a row. The breakfast itself is terrible with a small selection of sweetened dry cereals, some bread, a single kind of jelly, no coffee, hardly any fruit, and a small selection of breakfast bars. There was not enough of most things for the number of guests that showed up even though the owners know how many guests there are. For a real breakfast that also is excellent go three doors down to the Mean Queen. The restaurant attached to the hotel, Mangiare, serves only dinner. The food is Italian and is ouitstanding (my mother was an Italian immigrant, I've been to Italy 15 times, and I cook Italian). Be sure to go early because many locals eat there and the place fills quickly. Large helpings, reasonable prices especially for Alaska. Reservations only by phone and only for 6 or more.
