The Family Cabins at Freycinet Lodge are EXTREMELY dated and in desperate need of a total, floor to ceiling, refresh.
My family stayed At Freycinet Lodge recently and while the main building which comprises the lobby area and Bay Restaurant and bar is beautifully situated above the water, the family cabins are the worst value for money of the hundreds of hotel I have stayed in over the last 30 or so years.
After checking in and dropping our bags in our room I was so gobsmacked at the poor quality that I returned to the reception and asked to be moved, stating how underwhelmed I was. Unfortunately there were no other options - I was advised the only renovated rooms are for couples and they were currently going for between "$1500 and $2000 a night". About double what we paid for our cabin stuck in time and stuck in the middle of the bush, well back from the ocean.
The family cabins are very cramped - the barely fitting sofa partially blocked the entrance to the bedroom, extremely dated - curtains seemingly from the 80's, everything creeks, the ceiling fan made a clicking sound and could not be used, a tiny kitchen with an inaccessible frosted over freezer, and that "view" of the large native bush growing right at the edge of the patio...not exactly what we had in mind for the $$$ charged for those rooms.
Appalling value for money.
