Room for Improvement… A LOT
Mvy recent stay at The Establishment by SleepyBear was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in my life.
Prior to arrival, you will be asked to send a photo of your ID or passport via text, pay a deposit and report your time of arrival. All that seemed fair although the refundable deposit did seem a bit steep for the price of the room.
On top of that, I get a text an hour before check in that other than the deposit, I had to pay extra cash to security that would be refunded to me after I return my key card and it had to be cash. This was not mentioned days before but on the day of check in and it was presumptuous to think that all guests would have cash on them. Funnily enough, there was a notice at the front desk informing guests that “concierge and security DO NOT collect any cash deposit from any short term rental guests”, so I did not have to pay.
Check in was also equally annoying as they mixed up my room number with my friend’s and I ended up waiting for 15 minutes for them to sort the confusion out only to have them realize that they had given my room to my friend who checked in earlier.
Finally, I get to my room and the place is poorly maintained. The couch is full of stains, the backsplash of the kitchen is cracked and there is a musty smell that does not smell pleasant.
My friend and I were so put off by our experience that we actually then made a booking the beautiful hotel next to The Establishment and stayed there the rest of the trip.
